Stamped Concrete Patio in Meridian, ID
How the job started, what our in-house crew built, and how it turned out.
01Site & challenge
The backyard of this Meridian, Idaho home had an aging wood deck off the back door and an old concrete slab beneath and beside it. Both had to go. Swapping a rotting deck for concrete means everything the deck hid comes out with it — the cracked slab, soft spots in the soil, and grades that sent water toward the house instead of away from it. The owners wanted a surface that would hold up through Idaho freeze-thaw winters and still look finished, not utilitarian.
02What we built
Our crew tore out the deck boards, joists, and hardware, sorted the lumber, and hauled it off. The old slab was broken out by hand and machine, wheeled to the driveway in wheelbarrows, and exported as rubble. With the area down to clean subgrade, we set form boards to a grade that sheds water away from the foundation, placed and compacted a gravel base, and poured a new stamped concrete patio: a broom-textured field, a contrasting colored border, and new back steps at the door. Control joints were cut where the slab wants to move so any cracking stays hidden in the pattern, all finished under our pavers and concrete service.
03Outcome
The result is a flat, low-maintenance patio that runs the width of the house, drains properly, and will not rot, warp, or need staining — a durable base for outdoor living in a Treasure Valley backyard.
