Layout & anchoring
Post bases surveyed, squared, and anchored to the existing stamped-concrete slab with structural hardware
Timber framing
Heavy cedar posts and beams plumbed, braced, and set to a string line around the stone fire pit
Gable trusses
Site-built cedar trusses and exposed rafters raised and set across the full span
Roof deck
Cedar skip sheathing and roofing over the truss frame for an open-air, all-season gathering space
The challenge
Building a full gable roof over an existing patio means every post lands exactly where the slab allows — no over-pour, no second chances. We anchored to the stamped concrete with structural hardware, kept the stone fire pit centered under the ridge, and raised site-built trusses across the span without disturbing the finished hardscape below.
