Masonry / Block Wall in Mesa, AZ
How the job started, what our in-house crew built, and how it turned out.
01Site & challenge
Mesa, Arizona is hard on walls: summer heat, hard caliche soil that fights every trench, and monsoon runoff that finds any weak footing. This property needed a new CMU perimeter wall along a line that an overgrown mesquite had claimed, next to a row of mature palms. The wall had to be properly footed, steel-reinforced, and finished to match the neighborhood — and the tree had to come out first without damaging the palms or the utilities nearby.
02What we built
We removed the mesquite, hauled it off, and cleared and graded the wall line. Our crew trenched into the caliche to bearing and formed a reinforced concrete footing along the full run. Cinder block was laid course by course with steel in the cells and grouted solid to code, tying into the existing block at the corner for a continuous, plumb wall. A three-coat stucco finish — scratch, brown, and finish — gives the block a clean, durable face that sheds heat and water. The work falls under our masonry and concrete service, with layout and code review by our in-house engineering and permitting team under our Arizona ROC license.
03Outcome
The property now has a straight, solid block wall running true along the line, permitted through the City of Mesa and Maricopa County — built to hold up in the desert for decades rather than a few seasons. Selective tree removal, trenching, block, and stucco were all done by one crew on one schedule, with no subcontractor handoffs.
